Take steps to free yourself from chronic pain.

We’ve all got weaknesses that could benefit from attention. Poor posture, malalignments and poor body mechanics can all negatively affect your muscles and soft tissue structures, often leading to chronic pain conditions.

Have You Suffered Chronic Pain for Some Time?

Many people experiencing pain will visit their GP but despite their best efforts GPs are often unable to help.  They don’t have the time to fully investigate what’s going on and will prescribe pain-killers or anti-inflammatories to treat the symptoms rather than the cause of the problem.

As a Biomechanics Method Corrective Exercise Specialist I will carry out a structural and postural assessment on you to establish exactly what’s going on in your body and whether the pain is biomechanically based.

From the results of the structural assessment I’ll create a programme of exercises that are purposefully designed to alleviate your specific chronic pain issues.

The combination of the anatomically focussed assessment and subsequent corrective exercise programme can help you to successfully eliminate back, neck, shoulder, knee, foot, ankle and joint pain.

Lets Identify What's Causing the Pain

The assessment includes a verbal, visual and hands-on assessment of your feet and ankles, knees, lumbo-pelvic hip girdle, thoracic spine and shoulder girdle, and neck and head.

This non-invasive assessment helps me to identify musculoskeletal imbalances that are specific to your body and causing your pain and I’ll show you how malalignments in one part of your body can be causing pain and/or dysfunction in another.

I read about the course Ruth had done on Biomechanics and thought it looked like something that may help my knees, which are often painful and stiff because of arthritis. I was pretty sure that the way I walk has made them worse. I also had recently been suffering from lower back pain.

Ruth looked at my posture, how I stood, which way my knees and feet faced and she also spent time looking my feet, She noted my dropped arches!

After the consultation she put together a program of exercises to improve my posture. These were sent to me via an app.  Ruth then reassessed each week, asking what had or hadn’t helped. I could feel the difference after the first week. Especially my back, the ache had gone and hasn’t returned. After 3 weeks or so my knees were less painful and I was able to go lower in squats and lunges in the gym.

These exercises really have made a difference. I walked a lot on a recent holiday. One day we walked over nine miles. Usually my knees would have stiffened up and it would have been painful to walk any distance for a couple of days after but this time I was fine. I have more confidence in my knees, that they won’t give way, but also they are a lot less painful and rarely stiffen up.

Thanks Ruth.

How Does Corrective Exercise Work?

At the start of your corrective exercise programme I’ll teach you self-massage techniques to rejuvenate and regenerate those tissues that have been adversely affected.  As your body begins to loosen up we’ll introduce it to specific stretches to teach you how to move through various ranges of motion.  Finally, as mobility is regained we’ll move on to strengthening exercises to help retrain the correct alignment and movement mechanics.
